This for me is all to do with me personal love of the original Robocop. I am a huge fan and ordered this on days one. After the second delay of this I questioned why as I bothering to wait and was very close to cancelling due to the wait. I then saw these photographs and I see that Jerry love for Rocobop has shone through and I am very happy I did not cancel in haste. Come on January 2016…

Now this piece blew me away. I love the details all over this statue, from Medusa herself, to the soldier turned to stone and the second soldier trying to escape. I had my finger over the ordered button and with the money already in my PayPal from sales around that time I am really surprised I did not place the order. This will upset some collectors, but to me I think this is better than the original.

Now I feel that PCS Cammy just missed the mark. The pose looks really awkward and was not well received with collectors. Almost looking like she is struggling to stand or had slipped on something, but PCS have done the right thing and sent out an email a few days ago to say that they are going to go back and revise the base and pose.

So peeps we are going to start a ‘piece vs piece’ or ‘classic vs modern’ or even ‘old vs new’.

No matter how long you have been in the collecting game you will eventually come across a common conversation about the old school (giving a shit) Sideshow era vs the corporate powerhouse that now doesn’t care about its people or the collector Sideshow (not what I agree with, but a common and boring conversation now)

Whatever your flavour opinions are like arseholes and we all have them!!!

We plan to use this page as a comparison of not only Sideshow, but all companies pieces, character choices and preferences of where your/our money should go (obviously we will throw our two-pence in too lol)

Sabretooth aka Victor Creed is a super-villain from Marvel comics and X-Men fame and the arch nemesis of the fan favourite, Wolverine.

One of my favourite villains of all time being that he is not only in touch with his animal instincts but he actually welcomes the savagery as opposed to Wolverine’s more suppressed beast in the basement.

I think my favourite part of this characters history is the fact he kills a loved one of Wolverine’s every year on his birthday. (Who writes this class)

The original piece released by Sideshow was not without its faults or criticism as we all know pyjama gate?!?

The body although big and powerful (more like open season comic) was underwhelming due to its lack of muscular definition we have all come to expect from Sabretooth!!

I love the face sculpt and paint on the regular edition and for me it can’t be topped and the sculpting on the gloves is masterfully executed from Sideshows gore group!

The base is fantastic and the animal wolverine skull and maple leaves scattered on the Canadian mountains is a great touch!!

Oh and the gold print underneath the base  is one of the best I have seen too lol!!

So to be honest I love the original and score it a good 7.5 out of 10 overall!!

Now for the new one…..

For a start its smaller!!!
How you ask as its practically the same sculpt?

Well I am going with a smaller base and a slight change of angles!!

I love the heads sculpts but that’s a dead heat as there near enough identical to the original exclusive!!

I love the snowy base but not more than the original so deduction there then!

I love the body sculpt more but I still feel he is not vascular enough or as shredded as I wanted plus the Pom Pom uniform was never my favourite!!

The claws on the hands are amazing but what the fu%# happened to his feet?!?!!

Is it their position and shape or those nails? I don’t know but wow I am not a fan!!

With an addition size of 750 for the ex this piece feels like a test the water moment as the original does not go up much in price on the secondary market and is not considered a masterpiece by any means!!

Verdict…..

If you haven’t guessed by now I am sticking with the original which is a shame as I am buying the brown wolverine which is the counter part of this new Sabretooth!!

Was it the base? No!
The feet I hear you ask? Ummm no!
It was the lack of significant change! No real switch outs or improvements on the body sculpt or base plus that uniform and limited chance of major re sale profit…….. Easy pass I afraid!!

Let’s hope I am not wrong…. Again!!

Over at Radd Titan we was given this news last week, but promised we would keep our lips sealed till more information came out (hard to do), but now the cat is out the bag we can share what we know.

So at the  Zbrush summit 2015 conference images were shown of an Alien design Sideshow have been working on.

They did not give any information to the scale, but over at Radd Titan we know 🙂

The pose shown is called the “Jesus pose of Big Chap”. It is from H R Giger artwork and has his typically look to the alien figure and the base. With the typical pipes and mech detailing.

Radd Titan the piece would have been a Legendary Scale Figure and will be in scale with their Wolf Predator.

Normally LSF means 1/2 scale, but looking back to the Wolf remember this was a small 1/3 (but the Alien and Predator characters are a lot bigger than humans), but we are sorry to say but looking like this will be 1/5

So could still be in an affordable price range

We were also told that Sideshow are working on a new Predator (original) LSF and that too will be 1/3. But will coolprops and possibly Prime1 getting the Predator licence. Do I want to gamble my money on Showshow?

Over here in Radd Titan we are normally very relaxed, well I am (Alex).. Geo not so much, but I have come across a little detail that has really bothered me. Maybe more than it should, but it was actually one of the selling points of me buying the new Green Hulk Premium Format Figure from Sideshow Collectibles. Not the main point, but was a factor or me deciding to buy the piece. I am not even going into the paint issues or ill fitting heads that people are complaining about on social media till i get mine in hand.. but here is my rant.

Let me just rewind a little… Back in 2010 Sideshow collectibles released their line of Hulk Comiquettes. Other than the heads and the colors of the pieces being different, there was not other differences to be seen. All had the same pose, same body sculpt and all had the same base. With my order of heads going Grey, Red, Green (best to worst).

Overall the Grey (Review) and Red were pretty well executed, but to me(I believe Geo too) and a lot of other collectors the green head came out terrible and looked like Mike Tyson. Resulting in the red and grey being repainted green or even collectors commissioning artists to resculpt the hair.

My point here is that I always thought it was really lazy of Sideshow to not tweek the pose a little on these or even make some small amendments to the base. Some thing small… Anything!!!

So then when the new trio of Hulk premium formats came up on the Sideshow website I was really happy to see that the measurements were different for the Red (20″ x 20″ x 11″ and 18.5kg), with the Green and Grey at (20″ x 15″ x 19″ and 20kg).

Now after seeing many in hand photos of the Green and seeing the Red as Geo owns one (Review) it is clear that Sideshow have made the two pieces the same and not put the effort in making them different other than the heads.

In the original prototype photograph from before August 2015 (below left)  it is clear that there is not a plan to have the Hulkbuster hand on the base and the base does look thinner compared to images currently on the website (below right).

I think that if companies are going to make these change to the statues we order, as customers we should be sent an update and be kept in the loop. Part of me can see that with the success of the movie Avengers : Age of Ultron Sideshow could have used it to their advantage. Telling customers “We are excited to announce that now the Green Hulk premium format will come with the Hulkbuster hand to the base as a tribute…”. Sadly I feel this is not the case and Sideshow have just done this as another trick to add to the increasing tactics of saving money. Cast the same base for all, making production costs cheaper and save money 🙁

It is sad that extra was not done to make the pieces different, even after making it appear that was the case when the items went up for pre-order. I mean I would have ordered anyway, but for over a year Geo and I have been discussing that the bases are different and that it is great of sideshow to do this, not cut corners and not do the same as they did previously with the comiquettes.
I will be receiving my Green hulk in less than a week, so Geo and I will be filming a full unboxing and giving our full opinion on the piece.

Looking at the measurements on the website and an image I took from Facebook earlier today it is clear that there is not a 8″ difference in the length or a 5″ difference in the width 🙁

Now this is the piece I have been looking forward too since it was sneak peeked on some of the forums and then exhibited at SDCC2015, but I have to say today I was met with a roller coaster of emotions. (well it all lasted less than 10 minutes).

First I was excited to see that on the Sideshow Collectibles website there was a competition to win one of these awesome pieces. So I scrolled down and was met with the section station the piece was 1:5 scale… I was so disappointed to read that after I have decided to focus on 1:4 so this would have made up my mind to pass on this piece.

Then I decided I would put the $1000+ I have saved towards. (factoring in that I would have to buy the Ledger Joker too). I decided on the Venom or Carnage comiquettes…

Then I post my findings on Facebook to my fellow collectors to get their feedback on the situation.

I then check the website to post a screen shot of this and it has been changed to 20″ and the 1:5 scale has been removed.. Sideshow was contacted via live chat and it was all a human error..

Funny to see though how quick I was will to pass on the pieces due to the scale, but back on this and Joker knowing they are the scale I am looking for. (The Venom and Carnage comiquettes will have to wait)

Will 100% be adding both of the Dark knight pieces to my collection.

For me it all started with a flyer at my local art store. I was taking tons of art classes at my local community college, but didn’t know how to start in the industry. The flyer was for Jordu Schell’s sculpting class. I signed up, and loved it. He had a ton of insight on how to build a portfolio, and where to send it out. From there I got a job at SOTA toys, at that time we were mostly doing prototypes for other companies. It was a great learning experience, since we got to work on a wide variety of products, anything from Scooby Doo fishing poles, to super cool resident evil figures. Jerry Macaluso was nice enough to let me get my foot in the door. I learned a lot.

Just about everywhere really. I have been working professionally full time for nearly 17 years. Most of that time I was at Gentle Giant. The workload at GG was 90% service bureau projects, could be anything from high end action figures for toy biz, down to Burger King toys. I worked a lot on action figure lines for the most part, lots of Marvel legends, LOTR figures, Star Wars toys, Disney consumer products, as well as GG’s Star Wars and Harry Potter statues. Most recently (well ok the last 7 years) people would be familiar with my work for Sideshow Collectibles.

This is a really tough one. It really changes depending on what I’m most excited about. I love having worked on Harry Potter for GG, but I would say it’s whatever I’m working on now. You get a special attachment to work. As an artist you spend so much time with your current piece. It inhabits your brain at all hours of the day and night.

Back in January 2015 Geo received his Red Hulk Premium Format statue from Sideshow Collectibles. It looked decent and I have been waiting for my Green version ever since.

It was due in March.. Then it was delayed a little… Then a little more… Now 7 months after and still no shipping email Sideshow have released some new in hand photos of the green beast and I am actually happy I did not cancel, as I told myself on many occasions I would.

Now I have to work out when to display this huge piece…
