Interest for Mephesto Statue

[av_one_half first]

[av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=”]
While I was chatting to the owner of Imaginarium Art (IA) the other day we spoke about the licences they held and one of the names was Mephesto. Now I am a huge Silver Surfer fan and Mephesto was one of his earliest villains.

So I am really excited about this news, but is there enough love and popularity for the character to warrant IA making one?

I have always been a fan of the 1/6 statue by Bowen Designs, but for my collection it was always a bit too small.

I have been told that IA has the licence to make this piece in a few scales.

What scale would you like to see this piece in?

Throne, standing museum or dynamic?

Let me know your ideas.

Imaginarium Art making Galactus

[av_heading tag=’h3′ padding=’10’ heading=’Imaginarium Art make bid for Galactus’ color=” style=” custom_font=” size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ custom_class=”][/av_heading]

[av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=”]
Everyone now knows that Imaginarium Art (IA) is not shy about making statues of huge proportions. Their Aquaman was gigantic (96 cm to the top of the trident) and then their Hulkbuster is a total beast (80cm to the highest point), but now they’re making a character that there is no doubt ever that he should be made as big as possible.

Lets us give you some background on the creator of my favorite Hero (the Silver Surfer).. Ladies and gentlemen we give you Galactus!!!

Back in around 2010-11 Giorgio Comolo was commissioned to produce some artwork of Galactus. While they were not to be used in any comic book, I have been seeing them all over comic forums for the past few years with fans trying to find out which story the artwork related to. Then more recently on statue collectors groups since the increased popularity of the throne pieces, suggesting this would make an epic piece.

So I have to say I was delighted when I received a message from my friend Danny Lim asking if I knew anymore information about the artwork. I was able to tell Danny all I knew and got in touch with Giorgio to introduce them.

The artwork seems to depict Galactus with an Aztec style to him. Almost looking like he is actually a statue of worship, but I believe it is Galactus in more of a hibernation state. Awaiting to be awoken.

IA have said that the piece will be around 80cms to the highest point. If this is like any of the previous pieces I have seen of theirs it will be solid and weigh a ton. You will honestly need to set aside a corner of your collection room for this badboy.

From the interest already on social media I believe this will sellout quick just like their Hulkbuster which pretty much sold out of it’s 500 edition size it 2 days of pre-orders going live.
[/av_textblock]

[av_hr class=’default’ height=’50’ shadow=’no-shadow’ position=’center’ custom_border=’av-border-thin’ custom_width=’50px’ custom_border_color=” custom_margin_top=’30px’ custom_margin_bottom=’30px’ icon_select=’yes’ custom_icon_color=” icon=’ue808′]

[av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=”]
So what should IA do to make this statue special?

I believe that IA should stick to the design with the Artwork, but add the iconic Galactus purple and pink colors to it. Make it  battle damaged and worn over the years of slumber. I also think the IA should work with the Artist to product a print to go with the statue. I do not think it should be an ‘exclusive’, but that the print should go will all of the sold pieces.

From what I can see it will look like IA will stick to an edition size of 500. This is the Edition size of their Aquaman and of their Hulkbuster (who I honestly believe they could have made double of these).

As much as I would love to see an ‘exclusive’ small silver surfer to go with this or a collection of the Heralds of Galactus I feel that every time these have been attempted they have come out really tacky looking (Sideshow Maquette and Sideshow Legendary Scale Bust).

If you have any ideas to what could be done to make this extra epic send an Email to Alex@raddtitan.com (subject Galactus) and I can pass it on to IA.

Geoman here!!!

So peeps we are going to start a ‘piece vs piece’ or ‘classic vs modern’ or even ‘old vs new’.

No matter how long you have been in the collecting game you will eventually come across a common conversation about the old school (giving a shit) Sideshow era vs the corporate powerhouse that now doesn’t care about its people or the collector Sideshow (not what I agree with, but a common and boring conversation now)

Whatever your flavour opinions are like arseholes and we all have them!!!

We plan to use this page as a comparison of not only Sideshow, but all companies pieces, character choices and preferences of where your/our money should go (obviously we will throw our two-pence in too lol)

I will be starting this debate on the recent Sideshow variant game, whether it’s a genius money making scheme or them being lazy bastards. There is no denying this is no flash in the pan and we have had numerous characters revisited, revamped, redone basically and some only subtly in some cases.
Anyway on with the character in question!!!

Sabretooth aka Victor Creed is a super-villain from Marvel comics and X-Men fame and the arch nemesis of the fan favourite, Wolverine.

One of my favourite villains of all time being that he is not only in touch with his animal instincts but he actually welcomes the savagery as opposed to Wolverine’s more suppressed beast in the basement.

I think my favourite part of this characters history is the fact he kills a loved one of Wolverine’s every year on his birthday. (Who writes this class)

Back on track!!!

The original piece released by Sideshow was not without its faults or criticism as we all know pyjama gate?!?

The body although big and powerful (more like open season comic) was underwhelming due to its lack of muscular definition we have all come to expect from Sabretooth!!

I love the face sculpt and paint on the regular edition and for me it can’t be topped and the sculpting on the gloves is masterfully executed from Sideshows gore group!

The base is fantastic and the animal wolverine skull and maple leaves scattered on the Canadian mountains is a great touch!!

Oh and the gold print underneath the base  is one of the best I have seen too lol!!

So to be honest I love the original and score it a good 7.5 out of 10 overall!!

Now for the new one…..

For a start its smaller!!!
How you ask as its practically the same sculpt?

Well I am going with a smaller base and a slight change of angles!!

I love the heads sculpts but that’s a dead heat as there near enough identical to the original exclusive!!

I love the snowy base but not more than the original so deduction there then!

I love the body sculpt more but I still feel he is not vascular enough or as shredded as I wanted plus the Pom Pom uniform was never my favourite!!

The claws on the hands are amazing but what the fu%# happened to his feet?!?!!

Is it their position and shape or those nails? I don’t know but wow I am not a fan!!

With an addition size of 750 for the ex this piece feels like a test the water moment as the original does not go up much in price on the secondary market and is not considered a masterpiece by any means!!

[/av_one_fourth]

[av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=”]
Verdict…..

If you haven’t guessed by now I am sticking with the original which is a shame as I am buying the brown wolverine which is the counter part of this new Sabretooth!!

Was it the base? No!
The feet I hear you ask? Ummm no!
It was the lack of significant change! No real switch outs or improvements on the body sculpt or base plus that uniform and limited chance of major re sale profit…….. Easy pass I afraid!!

Let’s hope I am not wrong…. Again!!

Peace

Anticipation of waiting for my Green Hulk premium format figure

It feels like a lifetime ago that Sideshow Collectibles announced their trio of Hulks to be released. The end of 2013/early 2014 we started to see previews and stories for the Sideshow Collectibles trio of Hulk premium format figures. I have to say that Geo and I were really excited to hear this news.

Then, back in early 2014 the Sideshow Collectibles Hulk trio came up for pre-order. To me I felt the previews of this piece looked very promising and I had to get a green Hulk for my collection, no questions asked! And Geo went straight in for the Red version.

The due date came and went (believe it was due as early as December 2014). Then the Red Hulk showed his face to join collections from January 2015. (Review)

The Red received a range of views from very good to very poor.. It seemed that sideshow took this on board as the green was delayed until now (17 months after it went up for pre-order).

But with rumors of Sideshow using cheaper factories, using two factories for the new green hulk (one for the head and one for the body), resulting in color mismatches and ill fitting head and even not sticking to the measurements given on the website to make the trio of Hulks appear different has been shown to be false (will cover this in another story or I will side track).

As I am waiting to receive my Green Hulk that was shipped 22nd September we will not be able to give our in hand review yet, but the views on social media have had me close to cancelling.

[av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=”]
The constant stories of the head and body looking like they came from different factories, with heads that do not fit the bodies well, have poor joining lines and are in different colors has got me worried.

There have not really been any stories of the statue being light, but after seeing a few images of a statue that was damaged in shipping the thinness of the materials used has also sent a shiver down my spine.

It has got me nervous, but it is too late to stop Sideshow sending out the piece already. So we will see… By the the the counter reaches zero my Green Hulk should be in hand and our full unboxing should be for all to see on  YouTube..

Please pray to the statue Gods for me..

Back in January 2015 Geo received his Red Hulk Premium Format statue from Sideshow Collectibles. It looked decent and I have been waiting for my Green version ever since.

It was due in March.. Then it was delayed a little… Then a little more… Now 7 months after and still no shipping email Sideshow have released some new in hand photos of the green beast and I am actually happy I did not cancel, as I told myself on many occasions I would.

Now I have to work out when to display this huge piece…

When Gambit thus charges an object and throws it at a target, the object releases this energy explosively on impact. Gambit is unable to use this power to charge living objects. / As Death: He can control deadly gas

After surgery performed by Mister Sinister, Gambit’s powers were restored to their natural potential. He was able to use his power simply by looking at an object that he wished to charge, including living tissue. Gambit could also manipulate the potency of the energy release and could even exercise a measure of control over time. Following his climactic battle with the New Sun, Gambit lost this enhanced level of power.

Gambit’s ability to tap energy also grants him superhuman agility and dexterity, as well as creating a static interference that shields his mind from detection and intrusion by even the most powerful telepaths.

Gambit also possesses a hypnotic charm that allows him to exert a subtle influence over any sentient mind. This power allows Gambit to compel others to believe what he says and agree with anything he suggests. More powerful minds have proven immune to Gambit’s charm.

Abilities – Gambit is bilingual in English and French, and also possesses the ability to throw small objects – including knives, throwing spikes, and playing cards – with extraordinary accuracy. He is also a skilled duelist and fencer.

Paraphernalia – Gambit often wields playing cards and telescopic bo staff.

Powers – Colossus can transform his body tissue into an organic, steel-like substance that grants him superhuman strength enabling him to lift/press up to 75 tons and makes him impervious to most injury. His armored form can withstand ballistic penetration as well as temperature extremes from 70º above absolute zero (-390º F) to approximately 9000º F. Colossus cannot become partially or selectively armored; his body is either entirely converted, or not at all. Even his eyes become steel-like. Through an act of will, Colossus can transform virtually instantaneously into his armored state, and can remain in that form for an as yet undetermined amount of time. Once in his armored form, Colossus remains so until he consciously wills himself back to normal. If he is rendered unconscious, however, he spontaneously reverts to his normal form. In his armored state, Colossus retains his normal human mobility, though his endurance and speed are enhanced. He does not need to breathe while transformed, but it is believed that he could not survive for long in a vacuum.

Abilities – Colossus is talented in drawing and painting.
