Today we are talking about Sideshow Collectibles Captain America – OG Premium Format (2006) vs the Captain America – Allied Charge on Hydra  Premium Format (2013) we will be comparing the exclusive versions on both as these are the versions I have seen in hand!!

So we will start with the classic Captain America – OG which has an edition size of 875 with the exclusive being a switch out soldiers helmet with a bullet hole in it to replace Ultron’s head under caps boot and as it was released in 2006 it is truly one of the originals for sure!!

It’s a monster in regards to weight being 20+lbs, but not in stature as I looked over the fellow collectors prized possessions twice before I noticed he was even there which was a shock to me to be honest!!

Let’s start on the broken bricks and rubble base which I found very thin, flat and although painted very well it had a squished pancake look to the bottom and I was bored of it almost instantly!!

It does not get better beyond the classic boots either as the trousers are more pyjama like than any sabretooth onesie!!

I felt the tailoring and flaring in the trousers seriously unflattering and the buckle forgettable at best but then we get to the torso and WOW!!!

Yay now we are talking!!!

Magnificent, stunning, the gore group have done it again, Martin Canale rules all spring to mind as it has a fantastic body sculpt, but for me that is the only positive as well as the shield being the right size on this one!!!

The pose is stoic and iconic to say the least and from the neck to the waist its exceptional and I love the wings on the helmet, but the face sculpt has barely any features other than a granite chin and the eyes have a similar shape to the XM studios version which there was severe backlash about so clearly Sideshow slipped past with this unnoticed!!

I have heard all the talk about the Grail captain America classic piece with the exclusive selling for £700 – £1600 on the secondary market, but for me and Alex (I will speak for him) this was a big disappointment and the piece was lost among the Superman, Batman, Galactus and Hulks of a collection with it being 19 inches tall with an inch base he has been outgrown by the Giants of today!!

I saw Sideshow’s Classic Thor and said yep I would be happy paying that massive price for this masterpiece!!

So Alex managed to bag himself an exclusive Captain America – Allied Charge on Hydra  from Sideshow Collectibles. Which surprised me somewhat due to the fact we are both not big Cap fans and he is meant to be a movie collector!!

The exclusive comes with a switch out Thompson SG machine gun which looks great and fits the pose well although I don’t recall him using guns very often! (again I am not a big fan so don’t shoot me if I am wrong) see what I did there? Lol

The exclusive is of 1000 pieces which for this character in this day and age is very reasonable!!

The pose is more dynamic than its predecessor and the mixed media smashes it to pieces with a utility belt with removable spade, hand gun etc
The head sculpt is a masterpiece and my favourite part of the piece, he looks stoic, composed and his eyes are dreamy!! Lol

This cap looks more mobile and agile compared to the body building Mr Olympia sculpt of the original. Which is where they captured the more movie based look I think!!

I do feel this piece captures a part of the movie franchise as well as the comics and I was surprised how much I liked it!! (More than Alex I think!!)

I have to say both pieces can get lost in a collection as they both lack presence which is a shame.
The new version shield (retro) is a disgusting joke as it appears like they used a sticker instead of painting it (tut tut tut) and the modern shield is a bit small and dainty!!

I prefer the pose, paint, mixed media and head sculpt on Captain America – Allied Charge on Hydra , but the edition size, base and body sculpt go to the Captain America – OG!!

Buy the Captain America – Allied Charge on Hydra  if you love the modern day Cap who’s athletic, agile and commanding (oh and if you love the films as well as comics) as it is reasonable money and a solid 7-8 out of 10 piece for sure!! (this is where my money would go!!)

If you care more about reputation of a piece or the classics from Sideshow Collectibles and owning something others consider great and you have a fortune to throw away on an average statue then it’s the Captain America – OG you’re after!!

I have had the honour of reviewing some of the pieces considered the best pieces ever made and some have been worthy of that reputation (Wolf Predator LSF, Magneto on throne, Thor Classic and Spider-man Comiquette spring to my mind!) but this is one classic with a big reputation and a bigger price tag that missed the mark for both of us!!

I could go on alarmingly!!

I do happen to own the deadpool x force variant and love it thank god as the classic red is gone full retard on secondary market price!! Do that a big plus for me personally!!

Oh I also have the grey variant hulk comiquette (the best hulk ever!!) lol, but with all the hulk comiquettes floating around on eBay the after market prices are so varied you can’t get an accurate value on that piece!!!…… Not so good for me!!

Finally I have the original premium format Batman (masterpiece). it’s got a high edition but I don’t care!…. But that new modern version looks very impressive too!!

Does that hurt me or help me??… I guess time will tell!!

Which Sideshow Collectibles Batman Premium Format is the one to get?

Sorry we have been a little quiet lately on RaddTitan.com, but we have still been busy plotting and planning in the background.

Here is today’s “collectors dilemma” that my girlfriend was clearly not interested in discussing with me over our morning coffee.

I have been toying with the idea to pick up the Original Batman Premium Format by Sideshow Collectibles for a few months, but then the Modern Batman Premium Format came up, so i started to lean towards this, but then to throw a spanner in the works in hand photos of the Arkham Asylum Batman came up and totally made me unsure where to put my money.

To complicate things I own the Keaton version and have also been looking at the Bale Dark Knight…

The only simple part of this is my lack of knowledge of the Red son story. It is a nice looking piece, but but I can happily say the Red Son Batman is out of the race for me.

So peeps we are going to start a ‘piece vs piece’ or ‘classic vs modern’ or even ‘old vs new’.

No matter how long you have been in the collecting game you will eventually come across a common conversation about the old school (giving a shit) Sideshow era vs the corporate powerhouse that now doesn’t care about its people or the collector Sideshow (not what I agree with, but a common and boring conversation now)

Whatever your flavour opinions are like arseholes and we all have them!!!

We plan to use this page as a comparison of not only Sideshow, but all companies pieces, character choices and preferences of where your/our money should go (obviously we will throw our two-pence in too lol)

I will be starting this debate on the recent Sideshow variant game, whether it’s a genius money making scheme or them being lazy bastards. There is no denying this is no flash in the pan and we have had numerous characters revisited, revamped, redone basically and some only subtly in some cases.

Sabretooth aka Victor Creed is a super-villain from Marvel comics and X-Men fame and the arch nemesis of the fan favourite, Wolverine.

One of my favourite villains of all time being that he is not only in touch with his animal instincts but he actually welcomes the savagery as opposed to Wolverine’s more suppressed beast in the basement.

I think my favourite part of this characters history is the fact he kills a loved one of Wolverine’s every year on his birthday. (Who writes this class)

The original piece released by Sideshow was not without its faults or criticism as we all know pyjama gate?!?

The body although big and powerful (more like open season comic) was underwhelming due to its lack of muscular definition we have all come to expect from Sabretooth!!

I love the face sculpt and paint on the regular edition and for me it can’t be topped and the sculpting on the gloves is masterfully executed from Sideshows gore group!

The base is fantastic and the animal wolverine skull and maple leaves scattered on the Canadian mountains is a great touch!!

Oh and the gold print underneath the base  is one of the best I have seen too lol!!

So to be honest I love the original and score it a good 7.5 out of 10 overall!!

Now for the new one…..

For a start its smaller!!!
How you ask as its practically the same sculpt?

Well I am going with a smaller base and a slight change of angles!!

I love the heads sculpts but that’s a dead heat as there near enough identical to the original exclusive!!

I love the snowy base but not more than the original so deduction there then!

I love the body sculpt more but I still feel he is not vascular enough or as shredded as I wanted plus the Pom Pom uniform was never my favourite!!

The claws on the hands are amazing but what the fu%# happened to his feet?!?!!

Is it their position and shape or those nails? I don’t know but wow I am not a fan!!

With an addition size of 750 for the ex this piece feels like a test the water moment as the original does not go up much in price on the secondary market and is not considered a masterpiece by any means!!

Verdict…..

If you haven’t guessed by now I am sticking with the original which is a shame as I am buying the brown wolverine which is the counter part of this new Sabretooth!!

Was it the base? No!
The feet I hear you ask? Ummm no!
It was the lack of significant change! No real switch outs or improvements on the body sculpt or base plus that uniform and limited chance of major re sale profit…….. Easy pass I afraid!!

Let’s hope I am not wrong…. Again!!
