Radd Titan Commissioned Canvas

Last year at RaddTitan.com we had a really good year. Where we saw our hard work had paid off by the huge increase in the support we have been getting from our friends and fans.

At the beginning of last year we set ourselves a handful of goals. Some small and some big, some we felt possible and some we felt were not at the time. Let me set the mood we had 150 at the end of 2014. Geo and I were really happy with the growth of the channel then. So with my beer in my hand and a stupid smile on my face I turned to Geo and said “By the end of 2015 we

will have 10 times this number of subs”. We both laughed and continued to drink as though it would never happen.

We achieved this, but literally on the last two days of the year, so close to the wire. Even though the goal was a joke it really blew us away that we made it and made us really happy.

As a celebration Geo and I decided to have something made up to remind us of this achievement.

So after looking through a handful of ideas of what to have made to commemorate this. Which varied from different types of artwork, to even having a statue commissioned (we will leave this for 10,000 subs as it worked out very costly) we came across Lee Jason Sharnock-Smith from Paintedcanvas.co.uk. He was actually recommended by a friend who had commissioned some work from him (see left and right photos of the Magneto canvas prints).

So now we had an artist, but we needed a design. I sent a few images or art we liked showing both The Silver Surfer and Thanos to Lee and he even sent a few he found back to us. After agreeing on a design there we no turning back 🙂

The reason we chose this design was due to the name Radd Titan. Hopefully you all know the story now, but for those who don’t I will run through it quickly here. Geo and I have been best friends since we was around 5 years old and growing up we have always been geeks in disguise. Always been into movies and comics since I can remember. Well I have always been a really big Silver Surfer fan and one day Geo came over and I had some of the Infinity Gauntlet comics in my house. He looked through and from that moment Thanos was his favorite villain. So when we was spit balling for ideas of what to call the channel (believe me there was some really bad ones) Geo came up with the idea Norrin Radd (Silver Surfer’s Real name) + Thanos (alias “The Mad Titan”) = Radd Titan. And the name was born.

The canvas was hand painted by Lee on a 20 inch x 30 inch canvas and took him around 20 hours over a week to finish. Even the little details of the certificate of authenticity and the holograms on the certificate and corner of the artwork.

During the whole process we were constantly sent update photographs from Lee with the progress of the painting (I did actually try and get Lee to do a time lapse video for me and he even entertained the idea, but we both failed on the technology side haha). Communication was great as I can be a bit of a nag and ask for a lot of updates and he remained calm with me.

The canvas arrived and we are very happy with how it turned out colors are really vibrant, lines are sharp and there is no question of who the characters were meant to be. If I had to go back and change one thing about the painting that would be easy… I would have got 2 as now Geo and I are debating who gets to keep it. He suggested an arm wrestle so we will see…

Sideshow Predator… Legendary Scale Figure?

It is no surprise with how popular the 1987 Predator creature design is so popular. Personally it is on of my favorite designs of all time. So it breaks my heart that I missed out on the Sideshow Collectibles Maquette and the Cinemaquette 1/3 original Predator statues. Now the prices of these pieces are too high for me to be able to convince my girlfriend that it is an investment (especially when I never seem to sell anyway).

There is always the Sideshow 1/5, but after owning their Scar Predator I felt there was no enough presence for the character.

So while on a normal day for me looking through the hundreds of videos that pop up on my daily subscribed channels I started to watch the latest video from Sideshow Collectibles. This was the Artist profile of Alfred Paredes (Video is at bottom of the page) and what I saw got me really excited.

At 4 minutes and 30 seconds the video reveals him sculpting a Predator which is undoubtedly the 1987 version and appears to be a Legendary Scale piece.

Even though this piece is likely to command between $1500-2000 from Sideshow collectibles + shipping and the 20% tax we get stung for in the UK. I would still find it extremely difficult not to add this to my collection as I am a huge fan of the movie. Watch this space!!

I would like to start by Thanking you Radd Titan for the interview and for following my work, it is an honor. I started with art many years ago drawing, sketching and trying to learn as many techniques as I could, then I just stopped and decided to start studying law here in Chile. After a long time I stepped into Sculpting as a way to express what I loved and I had the opportunity to send some of my work to Epic Games. Doing this plus the support from my girlfriend -who paints my work – I decided to start with art again, this time as a Full time thing; since then I’ve been sculpting for approximately 3 years and everything has been like a roller coaster.

I’ve learnt, and continue learning everyday, how to sculpt by watching tons of video tutorials from YouTube and by also following the amazing work from really talented artists like Martin Canale, Steve Wang, Jordu Schell and others; This has been of great help because here in Chile there aren’t really any kind of sculpting classes; Actually, living as an artist here is pretty much almost impossible.

I really liked the recent work that I made for the magneto by XM studios, was an unmasked head that really made me happy, and also a wolverine rough sketch that I’m making between projects, using as reference the awesome work by the great Leinil Francis Yu.

I’ve been painting figures since 1978. Started painting garage kits in 1987 and have written for Kitbuilders Magazine, taught painting classes at Monsterpalooza, Kurt Hammits FearFestevil and Resintopia also helped judge various figure modeler contests around the country. I have also worked for Hollywood Collectibles for a few years as a freelance painter. I’ve also done many prototypes for figure kit producers over the years.

I was born in 1985 so as I was young a huge influence to my childhood was the original transformers cartoon, He-man, Thunder cats and GI-Joe. When I Got a little older The X-men animated series came out and I was instantly hooked. It only came on Saturday mornings so I discovered comic book stores and comic books to hold my interest in between shows. There my love of comics and Statues materialized. I bought my first statue which was a Moore sentinel series Gambit that took months to save up for. We lived in a bad area I was 70lb and looked like Harry Potter so I didn’t go out and play much. I’d stay in and draw and play with my action figures. I used artists like Jim Lee, Andy Kubert and Michael Turner to learn from and I am 100% self-taught. I was just a kid in the basement with his comic books and dream, lol.

I saw others working on and customizing statues so decided, I could do that. I started off small as I was scared to start chopping up and potentially ruining something so expensive. That quickly subsided; I showed my work and started getting commissions. I am now currently booked almost a full year out.

I also do custom Metal work, claws, swords, etc. This has become a secondary commission platform. However I handle my commissions differently from most and also will not work with everyone. The time I have to work on these projects is quite limited considering the nature of my actual career so I do pick and choose the people and projects I take on. It’s been fun and I see improvements with each piece so far. Therefore I believe everything is going well I think is been 3-4 years since I first started statue work, So there is still a lot to learn which is the part I most I look forward to.

This changes a lot but currently did a complete overhaul of the SS Red Sonja PF, including lots of mixed media and metal work all scratch built which was a challenge and very fun. It also showcases sewing, tailoring, fabrication as well as a style of painting I hadn’t done before. I like being able to do whatever a job calls for. Mixed media options and being versatile style wise I think is my best attribute.

There are few artists I admire but one of my favourite ones is Scott Marshal the creator of the best life-size Predator heads…and I’m happy and proud to say I have all of his heads in my collection….he is my hero 🙂

My dream piece to be made? hmmm…..actually my dream came true…for me as a huge Predator fan I have all Predator life-size heads there are except one which is the AVP Scar Predator….no one ever made this one but Scott Marshall promised to me he will make one for me so I guess that’s the last puzzle piece of my dream

I created this field. No one was doing detailed limited edition, painted statues before I began doing them almost 30 years ago. However, I credit my grandma for having a box of clay to play with when I was 5 years old.

My superman Statue is in every episode of “Seinfeld” (except for the first season) the Bernie Mac Show, Die Hard( A Good Day to Die-Hard). They can also see my work on display in most comic shops, and statue collectors homes around the world.

It would depend who’s writing the story between these two fictional characters…They would more likely be allies against darker forces.

However; if they were being mind controlled, I believe He-Man might have the advantage, due to his immense super strength and near invulnerability.
