I started to sculpt when I was a kid, drawing and sculpting have always been my passions. I’m trying to make collectible statues for the last year, because I think that it’s a great opportunity for me. So my work can be seen by lots of people around the world and not only in my country. I want to keep learning from the big masters. Maybe someday I will be as good as them and hopefully my work will be known by every collector in the future.

I’d been collecting statue for a while, owned most grails, but I couldn’t help but feel the quality was always lacking and I had tons of ideas for repaints. So one day I bit the bullet, bought an airbrush, a compressor, paints, etc. And gave it a go I had been educating myself a lot watching tutorials on YouTube, reading articles so I kind of knew what I was doing. Right after I showed my first repaint people started asking for commissions. The rest is history…haha

Anything Erick Sosa sculpted. I wish I had but a fraction of his sculpting skills (I suck at it). As for painters, I love the work of Saul Alvarez and Rick Cantu. Inspirational stuff

I have also done display pieces for quite a few garage kit companies. I also do commission work for figure kit and statue collectors around the world. My work has also appeared in Spectrum, Amazing Figure Modeler HobbyWorld and Airbrush Action magazines.

Oh man, that’s a tough one. The large Rathalos Dragon is a favorite, as well as my large scale Takeya Alien bust. Dominic Qwek’s new kits have been favorites too. There have been many pieces that have been a LOT of fun to work on, so it’s really hard to pick just one.

For me it all started with a flyer at my local art store. I was taking tons of art classes at my local community college, but didn’t know how to start in the industry. The flyer was for Jordu Schell’s sculpting class. I signed up, and loved it. He had a ton of insight on how to build a portfolio, and where to send it out. From there I got a job at SOTA toys, at that time we were mostly doing prototypes for other companies. It was a great learning experience, since we got to work on a wide variety of products, anything from Scooby Doo fishing poles, to super cool resident evil figures. Jerry Macaluso was nice enough to let me get my foot in the door. I learned a lot.

Just about everywhere really. I have been working professionally full time for nearly 17 years. Most of that time I was at Gentle Giant. The workload at GG was 90% service bureau projects, could be anything from high end action figures for toy biz, down to Burger King toys. I worked a lot on action figure lines for the most part, lots of Marvel legends, LOTR figures, Star Wars toys, Disney consumer products, as well as GG’s Star Wars and Harry Potter statues. Most recently (well ok the last 7 years) people would be familiar with my work for Sideshow Collectibles.

This is a really tough one. It really changes depending on what I’m most excited about. I love having worked on Harry Potter for GG, but I would say it’s whatever I’m working on now. You get a special attachment to work. As an artist you spend so much time with your current piece. It inhabits your brain at all hours of the day and night.

Primarily I’m a kit builder, statue repaints and fixes are a great challenge, I think the piece I’ve loved doing the most is a hard choice as I’ve done so many, one piece people comment on is the Lion o resculpt of clothing and repaint.. (liono Resculpt).

Well, it starts with a love affair…with comics! I was a comic collector nerd growing up. The passion transferred to statues as an adult.
This introduced me to the concept of sculpture which I later took up as a way to de-stress from my daily job. I helped out a few statue collecting forum friends with some re-sculpts and repairs and word kind of spread from there, I guess…

Lately when dealing with certain companies the QC issues have been like a game of Russian Roulette. With some recent collectibles being riddled with poor paint or poorly fitting attachments, to the other side of the scale of them producing some of their best work for years in recent months. **I have to add that the said company have had some QC issues, but I personally have never had any complaints about their top notch customer service team.

I have  seen that in previous releases that companies would send out the statue and hope for the best. As a low percentage of people would complain about these issues in time or not take the $40 creadit. To be honest this normal process reminds me of the scene in the movie Fight Club

“A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don’t do one”.

From Bryan / Statuforum: “As Ant-man is packed and ready to ship, we will be sending all 700 new heads to all the distributors and customers who have purchased from us – everyone can keep the old head.

It’s more straight forward for the distis, they order say 50 pcs from us, we will send them 50 pcs of the new heads, and customers who bought from them can contact them to get those heads. For direct customers, we also have their details so we will contact them directly to ship the heads. For people who bought and sold it to someone else, the original customers should still contact the shop where they bought it from (be it direct XM or a disti) and get the head and be a gentlemen (or lady) and send that to your buyer – buyers if you can’t get the sellers to cooperate, get in touch with me and I’ll sort it out for you. I really do not know what to say apart from two thumbs up tp XM studios. This is an amazing act of great customer service as the flaw was so minor that out of the 700 pieces produced it is likely that less than 100 would complain. then with the volume of XM pieces that are sold through flippers the response would have possibly been even less.

I am also glad that XM are getting involved if the buyer has a problem with getting in touch with their “middle man” as that could have been an issues with the final owner receiving the new head.

Prime 1 new teasers!

Here is the latest teaser of the Prime 1 Studio Bane Statue. Prime 1 revealed that this Batman: Arkham Origins Statue will be part of their Museum Masterline 1/3 Scale Arkham Origins collection. This will stand at over 40″ tall, making it the biggest in the collection.

Personally I would love Sideshow to work on a 1/4 comic book Premium Format or a 1/4 scale Tom Hardy, but it is great to finally see one on the big companies giving Bane some love.

Here is also the Arkham Knight teaser.. With talks of a Joker and Harley Quinn any collector collecting this line will need a big display.

Back in January 2015 Geo received his Red Hulk Premium Format statue from Sideshow Collectibles. It looked decent and I have been waiting for my Green version ever since.

It was due in March.. Then it was delayed a little… Then a little more… Now 7 months after and still no shipping email Sideshow have released some new in hand photos of the green beast and I am actually happy I did not cancel, as I told myself on many occasions I would.

Now I have to work out when to display this huge piece…
